Catalina Torres

born: Montevideo, Uruguay
based: Buenos Aires, Argentina

bio: "Catalina Torres lives and works between Buenos Aires and Montevideo. She completed her studies at ‘Escuela de Fotografía Creativa Andy Goldstein’ in 2019. Currently, she studies a documentary filmmaking degree at Universidad Nacional de San Martín. Her work has been shown in several exhibitions, both individual and collective, being the last one at Galerie 4m2 in París, France. Moreover, she has been part of some internships cataloguing and archiving projects of great importance: Archivo del Sonido y la Imagen de Mallorca (2020), Memoria Abierta (2018), y la Asamblea Permanente de Derechos Humanos (2018).
Through photography, video, and creative writing, Catalina’s work aims to explore the relationship between people and territory. Especially the way in which identity traits are formed according to the spaces we create, the places we come together, and those where we were born into. Her work can be based on visual/sound archives or work her way through it, exploring how certain narratives are constructed and the subjectivities that lay within.
For the last five years, Catalina has been doing commercial work as a photographer, audiovisual producer, creative director, and graphic designer."
she is currently obsessed with: pictures of the NASA's Hubble Space Telescope.
when nobody is watching she is: watching others
